Adding stems to my pumpkins was definitely and unexpected project that I happened upon on Pinterest but I decided to try it and fell in love with how the stems turned out. I have a lot of decorative pumpkins that i have accumulated over the years and they’re all different sizes! I made the stems all different sizes as well and they had such a different and whimsical touch that isn’t store bought! These blog posts focuses on how to make the stems. To see how to paint your pumpkins or cover them with fabric you can check out our other blog posts here and here!  This project also doesn’t have to be limited to pumpkins. I also picked up some fall gourds from the Dollar Tree and spray painted them white and added stems! You can also spray paint your stems as well if you don’t want them to be brown!

What you need:

Brown paper bags, grocery bags or craft paper
Mod Podge
Scissors
Paint Brush
Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Pumpkins and gourds

Put down a piece of tin foil to contain the mess.

Cut the bottom off the lunch bag. For small pumpkins cut the bag in half for bigger ones don’t cut in half. Open up the bag, cut a slit and then lay it flat.

Cover the whole side with mod podge. Fold it on itself. press it and put mod podge on the two remaining sides.

Grab the paper bag at the corner and start twisting it tightly until you make a stem. You can shape it in any way that you would like.

I leave an inch for it to fan out and let them dry.

Take the pumpkin of your choice, pick out your stem and hot glue it to the top of your pumpkins or gourds.
