Homemade Ice Cream
I grew up making homemade ice cream at my grandparents house every summer but back in the day you had to crank the ice-cream by hand but today we have an electric mixer! To be honest we only make ice cream a couple of times a year and July 4th is definitely one of those times! We have recipes that have been passed down through the generations and to be honest I’m not sure where they originated but I wanted to share 2 of our go to recipes!
Here are our family go to recipes:
Vanilla Ice Cream
1 Tablespoon Vanilla
4 egg yolks
2 cups sugar
3 cans evaporated milk
1 can condensed milk 14 oz
Warm evaporated milk, sugar and egg yolks on the stove top, stirring constantly to desolve sugar
Once combined refrigerate until the custard is chilled (about 2 hours or overnight)
When you are ready to make ice-cream:
Combine custard, condensed milk ,(4 cups of mashed fruit of your choice, fresh or frozen) this is optional
Add above mixture to your ice-cream maker and fill the rest of canister up to the fill line with Regular whole milk
Put your ice-cream maker together per manufacters instructions, add ice and rock salt and watch it spin
All ice cream makers are different…so be sure to follow instructions for your unit!
Strawberry Ice Cream
1 51/2 oz package of vanilla instant pudding
2 cups sugar
6 cups of milk
1 cup hot water
4 cups mashed fresh or frozen strawberries
1 pkg of whipped topping dry mix
Blend everything together and add to your ice cream maker
Follow the instructions of your ice cream maker and enjoy!
